BEEKA
at IU World's Fare
|

|
|
On
November 13, 2021, Presidents Hall was home to the latest
yearly installment of the IU World's Fare, a display of
booths from various student-run organizations dedicated to
educating the IU community about world cultures. The IAUNRC
assisted one booth by supplying various cultural artefacts,
national dress, and musical instrument replicas to student
officers of the Balkans, East European, Kavkaz and Asia
Association (BEEKA), a club composed of titular
representatives of Bulgaria, Macedonia, Georgia, Azerbaijan,
Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, and countless other Eurasian nations.

Talk with Dr. Orhon Myadar: Mobility and Displacement:
Nomadism, Identity and Postcolonial Narratives in Mongolia
|

On
November 5, 2021, the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource
Center welcomed Orhon Myadar, Associate Professor in the School
of Geography, Development and Environment at the University of
Arizona, for a guest lecture titled “Mobility and Displacement:
Nomadism, Identity and Postcolonial Narratives in Mongolia”. In
her lecture, Dr. Myadar drew upon her
recent book of the same title (Routledge, 2020).

Symposium:
"Continuing Threats to Uyghur Culture, Language, and
Identity" with Uyghur Academy USA
|

|
|
On
Saturday, October 30th, 2021, several units within the
Hamilton-Lugar School of Global and International Studies –
the Center for the Study of the Middle East, Central
Eurasian Studies, and the Inner Asian & Uralic National
Resource Center – hosted a symposium to discuss Uyghur
culture, language, and identity.

Band Performs at 2021 Lotus Festival

From
September 23-26, a host of musicians and performance groups
came together in downtown Bloomington in celebration of the
achievements of fusion and cultural exchange through the
annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival. Among those
leaving their mark on the festival were musicians Tamir and Naizal Hargana
and Brent Roman of the Mongolian-fusion group, Tuvergen Band.

Talk with Dr. Nicole Willock: Lineages of the Literary
|

In
September 2021 the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource
Center partnered with the Department of Central Eurasian
Studies and the Department of Religious Studies at Indiana
University to host Nicole Willock, Associate Professor of
Philosophy and Religious Studies at Old Dominion University and
IU alumna, for a talk titled “Lineages of the Literary”.
Willock’s lecture addressed the key points of her recent book,
Lineages of the Literary: Tibetan Buddhist Polymaths of
Socialist China (Columbia UP, 2021), a study of three important
Tibetan Buddhist scholars collectively known as the Three
Polymaths.
