Dear IAUNRC community members,
The fall 2024 semester is drawing to a close. The past few months have been intellectually thoughtful times at the center. Our focus has been on "Environments in 21st Century Central Eurasia". In person and zoom audiences have engaged with erudite speakers on: water distribution in the Aral Sea, Amu Darya, and Syr Darya; sustainable cities amidst climatic changes and carbon footprints in Finland; land degradation and climate change on the Tibetan Plateau; and the impact of overdevelopment on the ecology of the Uyghur Region. In addition, several other lectures, photographic exhibitions, cultural activities, and workshops have focused scholarly and public attention of celebrations and difficulties of peoples across the center's vast geographical domain.
Once the spring 2025 semester begins, please attend either in person or virtually all or some of the center's diverse events. We will celebrate the advent of spring with the Nav Roz festival. We will continue to draw attention to important matters through lectures on urban settings in Mongolia, pollution in Turkey, environmental changes in Estonia, temperature rises in the lakes of Hungary, and land degradation in Iran. Expect to hear about many other lectures, movies, and social activities too.
Please visit the IAUNRC's website regularly to stay up-to-date on all our engaging activities, sponsorship for which we are grateful to the US Title VI program and to Indiana University.
Happy Holidays and a Splendid 2025 to all!
Jamsheed
