Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships are awarded to universities in order to promote the language and area studies training of undergraduate and graduate students who intend to make their careers in government service, higher education, or other employment where knowledge of foreign cultures is a prerequisite for success. Only US citizens and permanent residents are eligible for FLAS fellowships. Students may apply for and receieve a FLAS even if they have already receieved an award for the same degree program (BA, MA, PhD, etc.).
The Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center is accepting applications for the study of the following languages in the 2020-2021 academic year: Azerbaijani, Dari, Estonian, Finnish, Hungarian, Kazakh, Kurdish, Kyrgyz, Mongolian, Pashto, Persian, Tajik, Tatar, Tibetan, Turkish, Turkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek.
