October 18th, the IAUNRC inaugurated its 50th anniversary as a Title VI center with a lecture by Assistant Secretary of State, Robert O. Blake Jr. The same weekend, the Central Eurasian Studies Society conducted its 13th annual conference on the campus of Indiana University.

The conference was attended by over 275 scholars. As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, the International Vocal Ensemble performed music from Central Eurasia.
