On March 29, 2014, the Indiana University and Bloomington communities celebrated Navruz. Navruz is a traditional festival on the vernal equinox marking the Persian New Year and the coming of spring across Central Eurasia. The program, organized by the Navruz Student Association, featured performances from across Central Eurasia and a complimentary dinner with regional foods. Indiana University students from the Uzbek, Persian, Pashto, and Kazakh language classes performed medleys of songs and poems, with featured dances from Jewher Ilham, Gulhay Qobilov, and Damesh Satova and a feature performance from the Silk Road Ensemble.
The event was supported by the Indiana University Student Association, the Inner Asian & Uralic National Resource, and many student volunteers, along with catering from Anatolia Restaurant and Turkuaz Cafe.
