This year the IAUNRC has continued to run Persian Club for the Banneker at the View after-school program as part of IU’s Bridges: Children, Languages, World initiative. The club is held once a week at Fairview Elementary School in Bloomington, where the IAUNRC is joined by a team of enthusiastic student volunteers from the university’s Persian language program. As well as learning greetings and some basic vocabulary in Persian, our 2nd and 3rd grade students discovered the Persian alphabet through Persian names and their meanings, made Persian sweets, explored Iran’s cityscapes, and learned about the countries where Persian is spoken through coloring flags and traditional costumes.
